Moon rocks are a fantastic remedy, but if life throws you into a Mercurial retrograde, you’ll need a megadose of the interstellar variety. Enter moon dust, the super-powerful and extremely cheap way to get out-of-this-world high, evoking memories of days gone by when full legalization, dosage limits, child proof packaging, and astronomical taxes were still new concepts.

Moonrocks, which are nuggets coated in a sticky extract and then rolled in kief, may seem somewhat out of place within the current zeitgeist of cannabis culture. In an era where mindfulness and health take precedence over the heady highs and bloodshot eyes of the pre-legalization era, moonrocks triumph as a throwback to yesteryear, reminding you that it’s still possible to be too high to do anything but laugh hysterically and laze about.

So, what exactly are moon rocks? Why would you want to consume them? And of course, how do you smoke them? You don’t have to be concerned. Weedmaps News is here to moonwalk you through the process, from countdown to blastoff.

What Are Moon Rocks?

Moon rocks are a type of cannabis that should not be overlooked. They’re for connoisseurs seeking for a way to improve their smoking experience. Unless you smoke concentrated marijuana on a regular basis, smoking some moon rocks is certain to be an adventure. You’ll need food and snacks, as well as positive vibes if you’re attempting them for the first time.

The rapper Kurupt, who was signed to Death Row Records in the early 1990s and Dr. Zodiak, popularized the moon rock. The original moon rocks are now known as Dr. Zodiak’s Moonrock. It’s worth noting that not all moonrocks are created equal. Dr. Zodiak’s Moonrock is well-known for winning High Times Cannabis Cup accolades, but another moonrock may be of significantly higher quality.

The quality and strength of your moonrock will be determined by the materials used to produce them. Some shady vendors may well bury their worst nugs and low-quality oil in kief. If you don’t live near any reputable producers of moon rocks, learning to create your own is a good idea.

Why smoke moon rocks?

Stoners like to use moon rocks as a sort of “stoner hack.” Typically weighing at least 50% THC and costing up to $30 per gram, these coated buds are all about value for money. If you just want to get extremely high without spending potentially hundreds of dollars on the flower, concentrate, and kief separately, you’ve come to the right place.

A microdose would be an appetizer, a fire pre-roll would be an entree, and moon rocks would be a McDonald’s hot fudge sundae you pick up on the way home from the restaurant if cannabis consumption were a three-course meal: not necessarily the most gourmet product, but it gets the job done.

Moon rocks are popular for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that they can help you get out-of-this-world high. Moon rocks have an outstanding usage in the medical sector as well, since many cannabis products were restricted by legislation to a 10 milligram maximum per dose. Patients who require high doses of THC to combat their illnesses turn to moon rocks for relief because legality puts a limit on edibles at 10 milligrams per serving.

Kiefed moon rocks are nuggets of flower that have been coated in a sticky paste, then rolled in kief. It’s a type of product that’s considered stronger and more affordable than concentrates.

Pros:

  • They’re the one-stop-shop for getting as high as humanly possible.
  • Easy and cost-effective: purchasing the three ingredients separately will set you back way more than buying a simple gram of moon rocks.
  • Great for medicinal patients who require high THC dosage.
  • Always a fun party favor and/or conversation piece.

Cons:

  • They get you as high as humanly possible, which, in my experience, is not necessarily always great.
  • You can only use glass to smoke moon rocks. Don’t roll them in a joint or blunt, and don’t put them in a grinder. It will make an incredible mess. Either put a small piece on a bowl of flower, or use a small piece as a standalone bowl.
  • You can’t let moon rocks get too hot by leaving them in the sun or your car on a hot day. When they get too hot they can become a melty, gummy, sticky, mushy nightmare, never returning to their former planetary glory.

How to smoke moonrocks

Moon rocks are frequently associated with the “stoner hack” term due to the high amount of THC contained in a small chip. A piece of moon rock may be used in conjunction with a flower to provide an extra kick to marijuana smokers seeking for it.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 gram of moon rocks
  • 1 gram of flower
  • 1 blade or straight razor
  • 1 glass piece (pipe, bubbler, bong)
  • 1 lighter
  • 1 rolling tray

Step 1

Take one moon rock nug, place on the rolling tray. With your blade, cut the nug into four or five chunks.

Step 2

Take your glass piece and pack a normal bowl of flower.

Step 3

Put a Moonrock chunk on top of the normal bowl of flower.

Step 4

Light your lighter, and begin burning the top of the moon rock slowly, so it sizzles and begins melting into the flower beneath it. If it catches on fire, blow it out.

Do not touch the moon rock. It will stick to you and burn you. Trust me, it sucks.

Step 5

Inhale as you apply low heat to the bowl until the entire thing is cherried.

Again, never touch the sticky little devil during this process, you will regret it.

Step 6

Exhale a huge cloud. Coughing uncontrollably is optional.

From here, you may want to orbit the living room, alternating between contact with the fridge, the television and the couch for the foreseeable future. After a successful descent back into the atmosphere, repeat, if you dare.
